Join the Fortune Society Inc. team as a Porter, responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and organization of our facilities. As a key member of our facilities team, you will play a vital role in ensuring the health, safety, and well-being of our staff and visitors.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Clean and maintain building floors, including sweeping, mopping, and vacuuming
  • Service and clean restrooms, including restocking supplies and maintaining a clean and hygienic environment
  • Clean windows, glass partitions, and mirrors
  • Gather and empty trash and recyclables
  • Follow procedures for the use of chemical cleaners and power equipment to prevent damage to floors and fixtures
  • Dust furniture, walls, machines, and equipment
  • Clean and polish furniture and fixtures
  • Requisition supplies or equipment as needed
  • Move heavy furniture, equipment, and supplies using hand trucks or other equipment
  • Shampoo carpets and strip, seal, finish, and polish floors
  • Set up, arrange, or remove decorations, tables, chairs, and ladders as needed
  • Secure the building by locking doors and windows after operating hours
  • Replace lamps and ballasts as needed
  • Deliver packages to agency staff
  • Assist with fire drills and real emergencies as a member of the fire warden team
Requirements:
  • High school diploma or GED/HSE preferred
  • At least 2 years of experience stripping, sealing, finishing, burnishing, and buffing vinyl composition tile (VCT) required
  • At least 2 years of experience operating light and heavy-duty cleaning machines, including auto-scrubbers, floor machines, burnishers, and stand-up and shop vacuums required
  • At least 2 years of experience spotting and extracting carpets required
  • Knowledge of best cleaning practices and cleaning chemicals required
  • Ability to work independently and take direction while keeping management informed
