Job Title: Library/Media Specialist

Job Summary:

The Birmingham City Schools is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Library/Media Specialist to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing and operating the school library media center, providing guidance on the selection and acquisition of instructional materials, and developing and implementing programs to promote literacy and a love of reading among students.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collection Management: Oversee the selection, acquisition, and maintenance of library materials, including books, journals, databases, and other digital resources.
  • Instructional Support: Collaborate with teachers to develop and implement instructional programs that integrate library resources and promote information literacy.
  • Program Development: Plan and implement programs to promote literacy, including author visits, book clubs, and other reading-related activities.
  • Technology Integration: Provide guidance on the use of technology to support teaching and learning, including digital resources and online tools.
  • Community Engagement: Develop and maintain relationships with community partners to support literacy initiatives and promote the school library media center.

Requirements:

  • Master's Degree: A Master's degree in Library Media or a related field is required.
  • Certification: A valid Alabama Teacher's Certificate with a Library Media Specialist endorsement is required.
  • Experience: A minimum of 2 years of experience as a Library Media Specialist or in a related role is preferred.
