Surgical Business Operations Manager

Job Summary:

This position is responsible for the financial management of surgical services for Advocate Health. The manager will perform monthly variance reporting for revenue and expense, ensuring that variances are addressed and rectified. They will collaborate with the Director of Business Operations on new equipment, instrumentation, and technology justifications, as well as pro formas and feasibility studies.

Key Responsibilities:

• Perform monthly variance reporting for revenue and expense
• Collaborate with the Director of Business Operations on new equipment, instrumentation, and technology justifications
• Partner with leadership on operational, strategic, and capital budgets
• Identify areas of variation in physician preference items, supply utilization, and the impact on cost management and quality/safety performance
• Review financial responsibility for assuring proper pricing and billing processes are implemented and maintained
• Follow up with supply chain partners as needed
• Utilize data analytics to process complex datasets for the construction and maintenance of dashboards, volume reports, scorecards, and potential physician scorecards
• Provide high-level analysis summaries of data to leadership, highlighting potential areas of opportunity
• Monitor key result areas as related to finance and surgery scheduling, ensuring data integrity is uncompromised
• Design and construct reports for presentations to leaders and physician communication
• Plan, develop, and assist in the implementation of new surgical services and programs across Advocate Health
• Provide financial analysis for the viability of new services, including reimbursement potential, procedural profile, and operational costs
• Participate in the strategic development of programmatic institutes within Advocate Health through key partnerships with business development and decision support
• Review profitability of current services and programs, making recommendations for optimization
• Develop opportunities to align best practices across Advocate Health as it relates to charge auditing and/or other operational areas
• Enhance knowledge and remain up to date with changes in surgical and procedural areas related to technology, operations, and finances
• Participate in activities to enhance professional growth
• Perform human resources responsibilities for staff, including interviewing and selection of new employees, promotions, staff development, performance evaluations, compensation changes, resolution of employee concerns, corrective actions, terminations, and overall employee morale
• Develop and recommend operating and capital budgets, controlling expenditures within approved budget objectives
• Understand and adhere to the organization's Code of Ethical Conduct, ensuring personal actions and the actions of employees supervised comply with policies, regulations, and laws applicable to the organization's business

Requirements:

Masters preferred or relevant work experience
3-5 years operations experience, including project management, consulting, or data analysis
Surgical or procedural experience required
Previous management experience required

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Self-directed, minimal supervision required
Exceptional oral and written communication skills
Ability to prioritize, plan, and execute
Proficiency with data analytics
Consulting and/or project management experience
Strong knowledge of healthcare finance
