Job Summary:We are seeking an experienced Activity Therapist Level I to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for planning, organizing, and implementing Therapeutic Recreation programs based on the assessed needs and interests of patients. This role requires a strong understanding of recreation therapy principles and practices, as well as excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Key Responsibilities:- Develop and implement individualized schedules for patients, including activities of daily living, arts, and therapy, to meet their specific needs.
- Teach and lead recreational activities, such as group and team games, arts and crafts, dances, gymnastics, art in therapy, poetry, simple forms of music, and dramatics, to patients on the Emergency room, Pediatric, and inpatient Psychiatric units.
- Direct learning experiences as part of the care/treatment of patients to influence behavioral changes leading to increased experience and comprehension of self and environment.
- Work with students from multi-disciplines, volunteers, and others assigned to the area of service.
- Attend and contribute to departmental meetings, attend and conduct in-service training programs.
- Communicate observations of patients in activity therapy to the team.
- Document in the electronic medical record, Activity Therapy Progress Notes.
- A Baccalaureate Degree from an accredited college including or supplemented by eighteen credits in Recreation, Physical Education, Dance, Fine Arts, Applied Arts (including Therapy) and twelve credits in Psychology, Social Psychology, Group Work, Group Dynamics, and/or related field.
- One year of full-time experience in planning, coordinating, and supervising a recreation activities program in a hospital or healthcare facility.
