Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Building Inspector to join our team at the City of Worcester, MA. As a Building Inspector, you will be responsible for ensuring that buildings and structures in the city comply with local and state building codes and regulations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct inspections of buildings and structures to ensure compliance with building codes and regulations
  • Examine building plans and determine if they meet code requirements
  • Approve or deny building permits and issue certificates of occupancy
  • Investigate complaints of building and zoning violations
  • Enforce code provisions and appear in court as necessary
  • Supervise and inspect construction projects to ensure compliance with building codes and regulations
  • Provide interpretation and recommendations to the Zoning Board of Appeals
  • Assist in on-call and after-hour inspections as needed
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in building construction and/or design, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Five years of experience in the supervision of building construction
  • Certified Local Building Inspector, or ability to become certified within 18 months of appointment
  • Valid MA driver's license and reliable transportation
Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of state and local regulations, codes, and ordinances
  • Ten years of experience in the supervision of building construction
