Job Overview:
As a Lead Outside Machinist Supervisor, you will oversee, allocate, and assess the performance of skilled and semi-skilled trades personnel based on their expertise and experience. Your role will involve training team members to enhance both the quality and efficiency of their work. You will also recommend training programs to boost employee skills and productivity, assisting in the creation of effective training procedures.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Translate broad strategies into actionable plans and ensure employees are equipped to execute these plans.
  • Ensure compliance with all technical specifications, including adherence to drawings and procedures.
  • Manage manufacturing, installation, operation, testing, and process operations that significantly impact the company's financial performance.
  • Supervise qualified trades staff and monitor job and budget performance across all shifts.

Qualifications:
To be successful in this role, you must possess a comprehensive technical understanding of the trade relevant to your responsibilities, typically acquired through completion of an apprenticeship program or equivalent education and training. Candidates lacking an apprenticeship certificate should have a minimum of three years of trade experience, ideally with some exposure to production planning and support functions.

Essential Skills:
  • Ability to supervise and motivate a team of employees.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills.

Basic Requirements:
All candidates must have a minimum of a high school diploma or GED, along with three years of experience in Outside Machinery, or an associate degree or two-year technical degree, or be a graduate of the Ingalls Outside Machinery Apprenticeship program. Candidates must be willing to work any shift.

Preferred Qualifications:
A strong working knowledge of the ship construction process, particularly in machinery, is highly desirable.
