About the Role
In this position, you will serve as a Senior Satellite Systems Engineer, specifically focusing on the acquisition and systems engineering aspects of advanced satellite projects. Your contributions will be vital in supporting critical missions aimed at ensuring space superiority.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee the acquisition and integration processes of satellite systems, from initial concept through to deployment and operational phases.
- Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams, including Engineering and Technology Groups, to facilitate system development.
- Establish system requirements and specifications aligned with mission goals and client needs.
- Conduct performance analyses and trade studies to enhance satellite system design and architecture.
- Coordinate with government contracting personnel to secure essential components and subsystems.
- Define evaluation criteria and participate in design reviews, risk assessments, and mitigation strategies.
- Manage collaboration with contractors and other FFRDCs on testing plans and procedures for satellite integration and validation.
- Provide technical expertise in system engineering to address integration challenges during both development and operational phases.
- Ensure adherence to regulatory standards and industry best practices throughout the acquisition lifecycle.
- Foster strong, enduring relationships with senior management and all levels of customer and contractor personnel.
Qualifications for Success
To be considered for this role, candidates should possess:
- A bachelor's degree in engineering, mathematics, or a related technical field.
- A minimum of 10 years of systems engineering experience, particularly in space systems development and satellite acquisition.
- Experience in spacecraft development, including design, construction, integration, and testing.
- In-depth knowledge of satellite subsystems, such as payload, power, thermal, and attitude control systems.
- Experience in evaluating designs for Mission Assurance.
- A current Top Secret/SCI clearance issued by the US government.
- The ability to obtain additional security clearances as required.
- Proven ability to build and maintain effective teams and develop strong working relationships with various government partners and contractors.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, characterized by clarity and professionalism.
- The willingness to travel as necessary.
Preferred Qualifications
It would be advantageous if you have:
- Demonstrated organizational and project leadership capabilities, with a track record of leading multidisciplinary teams.
- Experience with satellite procurement processes, including the development of acquisition documents.
- Familiarity with Agile methodologies in the acquisition of space systems.
- Experience in Space Operations, encompassing launch, early operations, and mission operations.
- The ability to identify and mitigate risks effectively.
- A strong commitment to mission objectives.
- Experience in the Space Control Mission Area.
