About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity to join the YMCA of Southern Maine as an Aquatics Specialist. As a key member of our team, you will provide administrative and program support to the Aquatics Department, ensuring a safe and enjoyable experience for our members.

Responsibilities:

  • Scheduling Support: Assist with aquatics staff, swim lesson, and pool schedules.
  • Swim Lesson Administration: Assist with swim lesson registration, rosters, payments, and general coordination of classes.
  • Inclusion: Honor the YMCA of Southern Maine's Promise Statement, creating a safe environment that welcomes and respects all individuals.
  • Programming: Follow and support all Association protocols and priorities, as well as State guidelines, and in adherence with all Y Brand guidelines.
  • Operations & Safety: Maintain rescue readiness at all times, enforce non-swimmer protection and safety rules, and take immediate corrective action when necessary.
  • Teaching: Provide safe, effective, and creative instruction for individuals at all levels, and educate adult members on relevant principles and practices.
  • Leadership: Be a collaborative, engaged, and active participant in our Association, communicating effectively and making sound decisions.
  • Relationship Building: Develop positive, authentic relationships within the Y, leading to greater awareness of the Y's mission and impact.
  • Mission Advancement: Be an advocate for the Y, promoting our cause and supporting philanthropy.
  • Data Collection & Tracking: Maintain accurate and consistent data tracking and documentation.

Requirements:

  • 1-3 years' prior aquatics experience, with experience working with youth preferred.
  • Strong swimming skills.
  • Current certifications, or the capability to obtain and maintain with YMCA support: Lifeguard, Swim Lesson Instructor, and Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) and Oxygen (02).
  • Strong relationship-building skills and the ability to welcome and include people from all dimensions of diversity.
  • Proven ability to take initiative and be self-motivated, with excellent decision-making, problem-solving, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office and databases.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate with non-English speakers, with the ability to speak languages other than English preferred.
  • Valid driver's license, reliable vehicle, and the ability to travel locally.
  • A clean record as determined through criminal background check and fingerprinting through the Office of Children and Family Services (OCFS).
  • The ideal candidate must be able to complete all physical requirements of the job with or without reasonable accommodation.

Salary: $18.00 - $18.50/hour, depending on experience.
