Clinical Research Physician Assistant

The Clinical Research Physician Assistant will collaborate with supervising physicians to manage and assess TIMI trial subjects at Brigham and Women's Hospital and Partners-related affiliates. This role oversees trial interventions, implements, and evaluates trial protocols. The successful candidate will have specialized knowledge and skills through completion of an accredited Physician Assistant program. They will be accountable for collaborating, reviewing, and updating the Principal Investigator regarding the status of each assigned trial.
This position assists TIMI Principal Investigators in the provision of research services in various treatment areas, including the main ED, outpatient hospital clinics, inpatient units, and Partners-related affiliates. The Physician Assistant works collaboratively with TIMI coworkers and study team members using advanced practice skills and knowledge to enhance research services.
The Clinical Research Physician Assistant is responsible for identifying, recruiting, and consenting eligible subjects for enrollment. They perform screening visits, subject care, and evaluations, including past medical history, social history, review of systems, physical assessment, and discussions with the Principal Investigator. They oversee procedures and tests mutually agreed upon with the supervising physician.
The successful candidate will collaborate with Principal Investigators, research coordinators, and other TIMI and hospital personnel to safely implement the study protocol and coordinate resources. They order medications, write prescriptions, and are responsible for subject teaching, distribution of study medications, and scheduling subject visits.
Administrative Responsibilities
The Clinical Research Physician Assistant oversees administrative procedures with the BWH Institutional Review Board (IRB), other hospital groups, and study sponsors. They assist in completing and submitting IRB applications and Annual Continuing Reviews.
The successful candidate represents TIMI for site visits and audits, serves as the primary contact for study monitor, and oversees the tracking of experimental drug supplies and appropriate storage.
Qualifications
The Clinical Research Physician Assistant must have 4 years of college-level education and a bachelor's degree or equivalent. They must have successfully completed a Graduate Level, accredited Physician Assistant Program approved by the AMA Board of Approval and Certification of PA programs.
The successful candidate must be Board Certified by the National Commission on Certification of PAs (NCCPA), licensed as a Physician Assistant in Massachusetts, and maintain current DEA and Massachusetts Controlled Substance Licenses. They must complete 100 hours of CME according to national and state regulations during each 2-year period of employment and maintain current BLS/ACLS certification.
