Responsibilities:
As a Senior Privacy Compliance Specialist, you will play a crucial role in investigating and documenting privacy-related incidents, including complaints and reports within various divisions. This position requires a thorough understanding of state privacy laws and Department of Health (DPH) regulations.

Your responsibilities will include interacting with patients, families, and other stakeholders to conduct comprehensive investigations into potential privacy violations or breaches. You will ensure that all findings are meticulously documented and communicated.

Additionally, you will provide support to Division Privacy Officers by managing basic privacy consultations and engaging with regulatory bodies during privacy-related investigations.

This role is essential to our privacy program, as it ensures compliance with HIPAA regulations by maintaining a structured process for investigating and resolving privacy incidents.


Key Responsibilities:
1. Analyze and address complex privacy issues in a professional manner.
2. Conduct thorough investigations of assigned privacy incidents and complaints within designated timeframes.

Investigations will involve interviewing relevant personnel, performing access audits, reviewing audit logs, and analyzing event details using established privacy repositories.

3. Collaborate with internal and external parties to gather and relay information regarding privacy incidents or breach-related complaints, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.

4. Apply HIPAA privacy regulations and other relevant laws to determine the outcomes of complex privacy incidents and prepare necessary notification documents for breaches or validated complaints.

5. Partner with IT Cybersecurity and Information Security Officers on privacy events that may intersect with security incidents.

6. Assist in the development of tools and templates for effective privacy incident management.


Qualifications:
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree preferred; relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
- A minimum of five (5) years of experience in healthcare privacy or compliance investigations is required.
Licensure and Certifications:
- Certification in Health Care Privacy and Security or Health Care Compliance is preferred upon hire or required within the first year of employment.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Strong analytical and communication skills.
- Ability to effectively engage with both internal and external stakeholders, demonstrating excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- In-depth knowledge of HIPAA regulations.
- Proficiency in database applications and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Proven ability to conduct thorough investigations using logical and analytical reasoning.
- Familiarity with State Department of Public Health guidelines and expectations regarding incident investigations.
- Strong interpersonal skills and conflict resolution capabilities.
- Ability to research and interpret applicable privacy regulations.
