The Palmer Museum of Art at Penn State University is seeking dynamic and outgoing individuals to join our team as part-time Museum Guides. As a guide, you will have the opportunity to share your passion for art with visitors from diverse backgrounds and experiences. We are looking for individuals who enjoy meeting and interacting with people, are personable and outgoing, and can speak comfortably in front of groups.

This part-time position offers a flexible schedule with varying hours, including 4-6 hours per week or up to 10-15+ hours per week, depending on preference and availability. Initial training will take place between March 27-May 24, with exact dates and times to be determined.

In this role, you will:
  • Conduct discussion-based tours of approximately 60-90 minutes in length, providing a welcoming and inclusive environment for museum visitors.
  • Conduct occasional tours of the museum and facilities (behind the scenes) for VIPs, special visiting groups, etc.
  • Greet and welcome groups upon their arrival.
  • Deal skillfully with a variety of visitors under different circumstances.
  • Continually keep informed about changes in museum exhibitions and tour programs.


To qualify for this position, you must be at least 18 years old, possess a high school diploma or equivalent, and have post-secondary coursework or a BA degree. Experience working with the public, especially in customer service or education, is highly valued. Additionally, you should be personable, reliable, and able to work independently.

We offer a competitive hourly wage of $15 per hour, which reflects the skills and qualifications required for this position. This is a part-time, hourly wage position with no benefits.
