Palo Verde College proudly holds the designation of a Hispanic-Serving Institution (HSI) and offers various programs tailored to support our diverse student population. Faculty members are expected to employ diverse teaching methodologies that cater to the needs of their students. The college enhances access to higher education through various modalities, including in-person, online, hybrid classes, and interactive television (ITV).
Position Overview
The instructor will be responsible for delivering courses within the designated discipline(s) and will also be tasked with maintaining and updating relevant curriculum. This role may involve teaching assignments during daytime, evening, and weekend hours, as well as high-quality correspondence education. Training will be provided as necessary.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver instruction across all areas of the approved discipline.
- Develop, assess, and revise course materials and curricula.
- Maintain organized records of courses and student performance.
- Uphold the college's regulations and standards.
- Utilize approved textbooks and adhere to course objectives and evaluation criteria.
- Ensure attendance and punctuality in accordance with the class schedule.
- Maintain accurate grading and attendance records, submitting them by established deadlines.
- Administer final examinations according to the official schedule.
- Notify the department promptly of any inability to fulfill assigned duties.
- Participate in part-time faculty meetings as requested.
- Return all keys at the conclusion of each semester.
- Stay current in the relevant academic field(s).
- Collaborate effectively with full-time faculty and staff.
- Communicate clearly in person and in writing.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements
- A Master's degree in History or a Bachelor's degree in History combined with a Master's degree in Political Science, Humanities, Geography, Area Studies, Women's Studies, Social Science, or Ethnic Studies, or equivalent qualifications.
- Demonstrated understanding of and sensitivity to the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.
- Compliance with regulatory standards relevant to the instructional programs.
- Prior teaching experience, preferably at the community college level.
- A strong commitment to addressing the needs of students from diverse racial and ethnic backgrounds.
- Additional academic qualifications that enable instruction in another discipline.
