Job Overview:

We are in search of a proficient Automation Specialist with extensive experience in liquid handling robotics and the integration of associated instruments. The successful candidate will exhibit creative methodologies in the design, enhancement, and execution of Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS) or cell- and organoid-based automated workflows. This role emphasizes a growth-oriented mindset and the development of skills in cutting-edge automation technologies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Integration of Robotics: Effectively merge liquid handling robotics with supporting instruments to facilitate molecular and cellular biology workflows.
  • Automation of Assays: Validate and implement automated procedures for standardized assays, including DNA/RNA purification and NGS library preparation.
  • Collaboration with Scientists: Partner with scientific teams to convert benchtop methods into fully automated systems, ensuring rigorous validation.
  • User-Centric Process Design: Create and validate comprehensive processes on automation platforms, focusing on user-friendliness and data security.
  • Troubleshooting: Conduct advanced troubleshooting to enhance usability and process efficiency.
  • Cross-Functional Teamwork: Collaborate with diverse teams to integrate NGS and organoid workflows into automated systems.
  • Technical Support: Address and resolve technical issues related to automation and NGS workflows.
  • User Training: Educate end-users on the operation of automated platforms and workflow execution.
  • Technology Awareness: Stay informed about advancements in automation technologies relevant to liquid handling.
  • Independent Development: Independently develop innovative automated workflows.
  • Record Maintenance: Maintain detailed records of all experiments conducted.
  • Collaboration and Coordination: Work alongside various teams to share methodologies and harmonize experimental efforts.
  • Lab Management: Oversee the organization and maintenance of laboratory equipment.

Qualifications:

  • Master's degree with 1+ years or Bachelor's degree with 3+ years in bioengineering or biology, focusing on automation platforms.
  • Minimum of 3 years hands-on experience with liquid handling platforms for high-throughput screening.
  • Experience with laboratory operations and maintenance of automation instruments.
  • Strong foundation in molecular and cellular biology, including practical experience with NGS assays.
  • Proven ability to develop and maintain protocols for lab automation systems.
  • Effective communication skills within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Proficiency in at least one high-level programming language.
  • Experience with Beckman-Coulter and/or Dynamic Devices liquid handling platforms.
  • Strong organizational skills for managing multiple projects.
  • Excellent problem-solving capabilities.

Preferred Skills:

  • Extensive experience with high-throughput methods and laboratory automation.
  • Expertise in integrating liquid handling systems with supporting instruments.
  • In-depth knowledge of NGS workflows and automation.
  • Understanding of cellular and molecular biology.
  • Familiarity with automation programming for liquid handlers.
