Role Overview
As an Elementary School Teacher at Uncommon, you will inspire a passion for learning in every student from the outset. You will be part of a community that promotes our core values of respect and diligence while honoring the individuality of each student and establishing the academic groundwork necessary for their future success.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Co-teaching and fostering a vibrant classroom atmosphere that promotes mastery and encourages students to participate in academic discussions.
- Instructing students in reading and writing to enhance their literacy skills, including phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension.
- Delivering a Social Studies curriculum that examines America's diverse histories, focusing on cultural and civic awareness.
- Collaborating with families to ensure that the necessary resources are available to support their children's educational needs.
- Assisting with morning arrivals, lunch supervision, student assemblies, class transitions, and after-school dismissals.
- Engaging in weekly, school-wide meetings to build community, exemplify our core values, and promote student success.
- Working with your grade-level team to set academic objectives and refine instructional techniques.
Qualifications
We seek candidates who demonstrate a commitment to fostering students' social, emotional, and academic growth. A strong interest in making a difference in K-12 education within urban settings is preferred (1-2 years of experience is advantageous). Candidates should possess academic expertise in Elementary Education, Humanities, English, Social Sciences, or related fields.
Before starting your role, you must hold a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution. While teacher certification is not mandatory for consideration in New Jersey, you must meet state certification eligibility requirements.
All instructional staff are expected to obtain certification in New Jersey within a reasonable timeframe after commencing employment.
