Job Description Summary

Under the supervision of the MRI Supervisor and/or Lead Technologist, the MRI Assistant will assist the MRI Technologist in performing various duties and procedures necessary for the daily operations of the MRI Department and patient schedule.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Follows all MRI Safety Policies.
  • Screens patients, obtains pertinent clinical history before MRI examination, and reviews with the MRI Technologist.
  • Greets patients in a prompt and courteous manner.
  • Assists patient with changing for the exam.
  • Assists in sliding patient on and off stretcher to MRI scan table.
  • Assists Technologist with positioning of patients.
  • Assists Technologist in changing MRI coils.
  • Assists patient in and out of the scan room.
  • Transports patient when needed.
  • Conducts proper discharge of patient.
  • Assists in monitoring safe access to the MRI suite.
  • Ensures the stocking of scan rooms and linen closets.
  • Completes special projects as requested by management.
  • Reads and responds to all emails appropriately.
Technology and Learning

The MRI Assistant will utilize all software applications required by departmental standards, including Outlook, WorkDay, Epic, and PACS as applicable. The individual will participate in continued learning and possess a willingness and ability to learn and utilize new technology and procedures that continue to develop in their role and throughout the organization.

Compliance

The MRI Assistant will work within legal, regulatory, and ethical practice standards relevant to the position. The individual will comply with applicable policies and procedures, safeguard the privacy and security of patient information, and bring potential compliance issues to the MRI Supervisor, Diagnostic Imaging Executive Director, or VP of Clinical and Ancillary Services.

The MRI Assistant will consider the individual needs of each person with whom they interact, possess age and cultural knowledge and awareness, and interact with sensitivity in the delivery of care/services of diverse populations as needed.

Patient and Family Centered Care

The MRI Assistant will convey respect for values, preferences, and expressed needs of the patient and family, recognize the patient and family according to patient preferences, collaborate with the patient and family according to patient preferences, and welcome the presence and participation of family members at all times according to patient preferences.

Safety Awareness

The MRI Assistant will successfully answer safety questions in annual mandatory education program, understand individual roles/responsibilities during hospital codes, utilize proper body mechanics when performing all aspects of job, maintain a neat, organized work environment, verify patient identification with 2 identifiers prior to the start of any procedure, comply with the current CDC hand hygiene guidelines, adhere to universal precautions, and make appropriate use of personal protective equipment at all times.

Physical Requirements

The MRI Assistant will be required to frequently stand/walk, push, pull, lift, bend, and use hands and feet. The individual will be required to lift up to 25 pounds and be exposed to body fluids.

Job Requirements

The MRI Assistant will require a High School diploma or GED completion, Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification, and excellent communication and organizational skills. The individual will also require the ability to work independently and in a team, be self-motivated, and have the ability to work in a healthcare setting.
