Position Overview

As a vital member of our healthcare team, the Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) - Phlebotomist is responsible for delivering essential daily nursing care and services tailored to each patient's individual assessment and care plan, under the guidance of the nursing supervisor. This role involves executing phlebotomy tasks with precision, professionalism, and efficiency.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Execute all responsibilities in alignment with the Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) job code 0101, Department 6300.
  • Manage laboratory data collection systems and equipment to ensure laboratory test requests are accurately processed.
  • Ensure proper patient identification to prevent errors that could impact treatment.
  • Conduct blood draws primarily from the elderly population.
  • Handle specimen processing, preparation, and distribution effectively.
  • Maintain a thorough understanding of policies and procedures, with a strong emphasis on infection control protocols.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, providing reassurance and comfort during interactions.
  • Order and maintain necessary laboratory supplies.
  • Keep work areas organized, clean, and well-stocked.
  • Handle sensitive information with confidentiality and discretion.
  • Collaborate with the laboratory manager on lab-related matters.
  • Demonstrate the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Adhere to all OSHA, CLIA, and federal regulations.
  • Exhibit a professional demeanor and appearance at all times.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Proficient in computer skills, including Microsoft Office and relevant software.
  • Participate in center/agency surveys and prepare necessary reports.
  • Engage in ongoing educational programs to stay updated in the field and maintain licensure/certification.
  • Attend mandatory in-service training sessions.
  • Respect patients' rights to fair treatment, privacy, and individuality.
  • Comply with corporate compliance protocols.
  • Report any job-related hazards, including exposure to blood and body fluids.
  • Follow established safety guidelines, including those related to fire safety and infection control.

Minimum Educational Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent. Completion of an accredited phlebotomy training program.

Minimum Experience Required

At least one year of phlebotomy experience, particularly with geriatric patients.

Licensure/Certification Requirements

Must possess an active, current, and unrestricted Certified Nursing Assistant certification in the relevant state, along with Phlebotomy Certification and a valid driver's license.
