Job Summary

To provide comprehensive eye care services to patients, including examinations, diagnoses, and treatment of visual diseases, disorders, and deficiencies. Collaborate with other healthcare providers as needed to ensure comprehensive patient care.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct thorough eye examinations using advanced optometry instruments and techniques.
  • Diagnose and treat visual diseases, disorders, and deficiencies, and prescribe treatment as licensed and credited.
  • Prescribe and fit contact lenses to meet patients' visual needs.
  • Determine visual requirements of patients with partial sight and prescribe low-vision aids as needed.
  • Use diagnostic pharmaceutical agents to detect and diagnose ocular pathology, as permitted by state or jurisdictional laws.
  • Participate in departmental and educational meetings, including peer review activities, to stay current with best practices and advancements in optometry.
  • Consult with internal medicine, pediatrics, and ophthalmology teams to ensure comprehensive patient care.
  • Develop and implement eye care education programs for medical center staff and patients.
Work Schedule

Monday - Friday, 8:30 AM - 5:00 PM, with one Saturday per month, 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM.

Requirements
  • Graduation from an accredited school of Optometry.
  • Enrollment in PECOS within 90 days of hire date.
  • Optometrist License (Maryland) OR Optometrist License (Virginia) OR Optometrist License (District of Columbia).
  • Basic Life Support certification from the American Heart Association.
  • National Provider Identifier required at hire.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience in an interdisciplinary healthcare environment, or successful completion of an accredited residency program.
  • Accredited residency in Optometry preferred.
