Position Overview

As a vital member of our healthcare team, the Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) - Phlebotomist is responsible for delivering essential daily nursing care and services to assigned patients, following their individual assessment and care plans, under the supervision of a nurse manager. This role involves performing phlebotomy tasks with precision, professionalism, and efficiency.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Execute all responsibilities in alignment with the Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) job code 0101.
  • Manage laboratory data collection systems to ensure accurate ordering, cancellation, and billing of laboratory tests.
  • Ensure correct patient identification to prevent treatment errors.
  • Conduct blood draws primarily from the elderly population.
  • Process and prepare specimens for laboratory analysis.
  • Maintain awareness of and adhere to infection control policies and procedures while interacting with patients.
  • Communicate effectively with patients to provide reassurance and comfort, both in person and over the phone.
  • Order and maintain necessary laboratory supplies.
  • Keep work areas organized, clean, and well-stocked.
  • Handle sensitive information with confidentiality and discretion.
  • Collaborate with the laboratory manager on lab-related matters.
  • Work independently and as part of a team.
  • Adhere to all OSHA, CLIA, and federal regulations.
  • Exhibit a professional demeanor and appearance at all times.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and other relevant software applications.
  • Participate in center/agency surveys and required reporting.
  • Engage in continuing education to stay updated in the field and maintain necessary licensure/certification.
  • Attend mandatory in-service training sessions.
  • Respect patients' rights to fair treatment, privacy, and individuality.
  • Comply with corporate compliance programs.
  • Report job-related hazards, including exposure to blood and body fluids.
  • Follow established safety protocols, including infection control and fire prevention.

Education and Experience Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent required.

Completion of an accredited phlebotomy training program.

Licensure and Certification Requirements

Must possess an active, unrestricted Certified Nursing Assistant certification in the relevant state.

Phlebotomy certification is required.

A valid driver's license is necessary.
