Job Summary

Tyonek Native Corporation is seeking a skilled Sheet Metal Mechanic to support daily repair and manufacturing operations for various aircraft types. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in sheet metal fabrication and repair, with experience working with a variety of metals and aircraft systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Evaluate structural damage to aircraft sheet metal systems or items to be manufactured, repaired, or modified
  • Examine aircraft and metal structures to locate cracks, breaks, holes, bulges, etc.
  • Determine type and extent of repairs needed to restore original strength to components
  • Plan and layout work from blueprints, sketches, drawings, work orders, etc.
  • Develop patterns and layout, cut form, join, assemble, and install metal parts, items, and assemblies
  • Use mathematics to determine curves, angles, and pitch
  • Work with various kinds of metal, including magnesium, honeycomb material, galvanized and black iron, aluminum, and aluminum alloys
  • Make repairs by manufacturing new parts and reinforcing, patching, and replacing defective parts
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • At least four years of recent verifiable experience
  • Knowledge of the characteristics and properties of metals used in the trade
  • Knowledge of the makeup, operation, installation, and adjustment of a variety of major interrelated and/or integrated aircraft systems, subsystems, and assemblies
  • Knowledge in the use of basic hand and power tools, such as hammers, chisels, hand snips, band and circle saws, box and pan brakes, rotary machines, welding equipment, etc.
  • Experience using measuring instruments, such as protractors, calipers, snap ring, screw pitch gauges, and other hand measurement devices
  • Experience in the use of shop mathematics and principles
  • Must be a US Citizen
  • Must be able to pass a background check, which could include a criminal history and credit check for access to Government facilities
  • Must have or be able to obtain a Secret Clearance

  • Must be able to walk and stand on level and/or inclined surfaces for certain periods throughout the day
  • Must be able to climb stairs, ramps, ladders, and work stands
  • Must be able to crouch, crawl, grasp or handle objects, use finger dexterity, bend elbow/knee, and reach above/below shoulders
  • May be required to lift up to 50 pounds
  • May be required to read dials/gauges, identify small objects, and hand tools
  • Must be able to see imperfections, micrometer readings, and other small scales
  • Must be able to communicate by voice and detect sound by ear
  • Must be able to distinguish color and judge three-dimensional depth
  • May be required to operate power vehicles, machinery, hand tools, ground support equipment, fork lift, APU, etc.
