Job Description

We are seeking a skilled Plastic Fabricator to support our team in creating innovative, one-of-a-kind items for experimental and developmental projects. As a Plastic Fabricator, you will plan, lay out, modify, and fabricate items with complex curves and angles, working closely with scientists and engineers to determine the most feasible materials and manufacturing methods.

Responsibilities:

  • Receive specifications for the final product and apply originality and ingenuity to devise changes to methods, materials, and processes to solve fabrication, assembly, design, and related problems.
  • Manufacture prototype models of missiles, wings, ship hulls, or full body casts, applying mathematics to calculate loads, fits, sizes, and weights not provided in instructions and blueprints.
  • Fabricate items to extremely close tolerances, making special jigs and fixtures for holding, machining, and curing irregularly shaped parts.
  • Adapt shop practices, methods, and procedures for use in unorthodox processes to fit new projects, establishing manufacturing procedures for newly developed compound materials.
  • Recommend changes to established methods to simplify the manufacturing process, improve the functional characteristics of the item, and establish realistic fabrication requirements.
  • Plan and lay out items with hard-to-define reference points, manufacturing master patterns and molds with numerous compound curves and intersecting compound angles.

Requirements:

  • Clearance: Must have the ability to pass a government background check that includes fingerprints.
  • Required Knowledge/Experience: 5+ years of relevant experience, extensive knowledge of the properties and machining characteristics of a variety of composite or plastic materials.
  • Physical Requirements: Workers frequently stand, stoop, bend, kneel, reach, and work in uncomfortable positions, frequently lifting and carrying materials and equipment weighing less than 50 pounds.
