Position Overview

The Infectious Disease division at Weill Cornell Medicine is dedicated to pioneering research, delivering exceptional clinical care, and providing top-tier education and training in the field of infectious diseases. Our significant clinical research initiatives focus on antimicrobial resistance, hepatitis, HIV/AIDS, hospital epidemiology, human papillomavirus, respiratory viruses, and transplantation/oncology infectious diseases.

In this role, the Research Nurse Practitioner will oversee and coordinate clinical research trials under the direction of investigators, with a specific emphasis on HIV clinical trial research.

Work Schedule: Monday to Friday, 5/8s

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as a liaison between inpatient and outpatient units for study participants, collaborating with referring physicians and their teams to ensure seamless care and ongoing patient recruitment; gather necessary pretreatment and on-study data.
  • Administer medications as required by study protocols, coordinating with pharmacy to ensure compliance with handling and protocol regulations.
  • Assist laboratory personnel with phlebotomy processing and shipping as needed.
  • Support outreach efforts by helping to recruit new patients for protocols, assessing eligibility, and participating in outreach activities as required.
  • Assist physicians in completing clinical study applications and in preparing and maintaining necessary consent forms for each study.
  • Manage various aspects of patient treatment protocols, conducting evaluations and assessments (medical history and physical exams) as necessary; provide patient education; oversee adverse event reporting; monitor patients involved in studies.
  • Review and finalize protocol history sheets, flow sheets, study follow-up reports, patient evaluation forms, protocol case report forms, and other relevant documentation.
  • Collaborate with data managers to ensure accurate data collection and interpretation of clinical data; stay informed on institutional regulations pertinent to protocols; assist with quality assurance and monitoring; participate in site visits.

Educational Requirements

  • Master's Degree in Nursing

Experience Requirements

Prior experience in clinical research or infectious disease settings, particularly with HIV patients, is essential. Experience managing research protocols and prior supervisory roles are preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Awareness of hospital policies and procedures, as well as adherence to good clinical practice standards.

Licenses and Certifications

  • New York State Registered Nurse Practitioner (NP) license and current NP registration.
  • New York State Registered Professional Nurse license and current RN registration.
  • Relevant National Board Certification (e.g., ANCC, PNCB).
  • BLS certification from the American Heart Association.
  • Infection Control Certification.
