Key Responsibilities:
  1. Design and oversee programs while conducting inspections of operations to guarantee adherence to local, state, and federal safety standards.
  2. Establish systems to efficiently manage responsibilities at designated facilities.
  3. Travel to various assigned locations is necessary.
  4. Compile evaluative reports; suggest enhancements and adjustments to address issues and deficiencies; and prepare responses to inquiries regarding unit operations and activities.
  5. Ensure that adequate fire protection services are accessible and operational at the facility.
  6. Conduct fire inspections and equipment testing on a regular schedule.
  7. Coordinate annual inspections by local or state fire authorities or other qualified entities.
  8. Guarantee the availability of fire hoses or extinguishers at strategic locations throughout the facility.
Qualifications:
  • Graduation from an accredited high school or equivalent (GED).
  • One (1) year of full-time, wage-earning experience in risk management or a related field (e.g., loss prevention, worker's compensation, environmental safety, occupational health, or industrial hygiene).
  • Thirty (30) semester hours from a college or university accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) or the United States Department of Education (USDE), including six (6) semester hours in a risk management-related field, may substitute for each year of experience on a year-for-year basis.
-OR-
  • Successful completion of the Alternate Unit Risk Manager (AURM) certification program or Collateral Duty Safety Officer (CDSO) certification program and one (1) year of full-time, wage-earning experience in criminal justice.
  • A valid driver's license in the state of Texas with an acceptable driving record, unless waived by management.
  • Must successfully complete and pass annual background checks and in-service training requirements, both of which must be approved by the Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ).
