Overview
This role is situated within the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), specifically under the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) division, focusing on Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) and the ICE Health Service Corps (IHSC). The individual in this position will report directly to the Clinical Director at the site and will hold a supervisory role.
Position Details
This opportunity is exclusively available to USPHS officers and candidates for Call to Active Duty (CAD).
Key Responsibilities
- Directly supervise and evaluate federal Advanced Practice Providers (APP), including both Physician Assistants and Nurse Practitioners at IHSC facilities.
- Lead and oversee the onboarding and training processes for APPs.
- Engage in national training initiatives for APPs as necessary.
- Assist in credentialing and privileging procedures as required.
- Manage the APP peer review processes effectively.
- Collaborate with the Clinical Director to enhance clinical leadership.
- Coordinate APP work schedules across IHSC locations.
- Organize regular on-site meetings and training sessions for APPs.
- Act as the Acting Regional APP or Acting Chief APP when needed.
- Provide direct medical care to detainees through scheduled appointments and urgent care visits.
Clinical Duties
Perform functions as outlined in the IHSC Advanced Practice Provider Collaborative Practice and Prescriptive Authority Agreement (CP/PAA). Responsibilities include:
- Consulting with the physician/Clinical Director for complex medical cases.
- Delivering infirmary care, including admissions, discharges, and daily rounds for detainees requiring advanced medical attention.
- Conducting comprehensive evaluations and minor surgical procedures as necessary.
- Prescribing medications while applying knowledge of pharmacology.
- Coordinating healthcare needs and referrals for detainees.
- Interpreting diagnostic results and managing treatment protocols.
- Implementing infection control measures in line with IHSC policies.
- Maintaining patient confidentiality and adhering to documentation standards.
Qualifications
To qualify for this position, candidates must:
- Be a U.S. citizen.
- Possess an unrestricted state license as a Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner.
- Have national board certification relevant to their practice.
- Demonstrate extensive clinical experience, ideally over six years.
- Exhibit strong leadership and supervisory skills.
Physical Requirements
The role may require physical exertion, including lifting and emergency response capabilities. Candidates should be prepared for the demands of a clinical environment.
