Position Overview:

The Patient Financial Navigator plays a crucial role in assessing patient financial information and effectively communicating with patients or their responsible parties regarding third-party reimbursement coverage and patient financial obligations for healthcare services. This position involves conducting comprehensive social and financial evaluations and referring patients lacking insurance or qualifying for financial assistance to appropriate medical eligibility agencies for potential support through various healthcare programs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate the collection of payments or establish payment plans prior to service delivery, during admission, or throughout the discharge process.
  • Contribute to an environment that promotes teamwork, engagement, and community involvement.
  • Uphold Novant Health's commitment to providing exceptional patient experiences in every interaction.

Qualifications:

  • Education: High School Diploma or GED is required.
  • Experience: A minimum of three years in registration, insurance verification, financial counseling, or patient accounting is required, with at least one year in a healthcare setting.
  • Licensure/Certification: Notary Public Certification must be obtained within six months of hire.
  • Skills: Essential traits include patience, empathy, and compassion. Strong written and verbal communication skills are necessary, along with the ability to articulate clearly and maintain a pleasant telephone demeanor. Candidates must thrive in fast-paced environments and be adaptable to change.
  • Preferred Skills: Familiarity with Federal and State regulations regarding charity care, agency assistance, and debt collection is advantageous. Experience with EPIC software is also preferred.
