Job Summary:

The HVAC Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the activities of a skilled workforce in the operation of high-pressure boiler plants and large centrifugal chillers. This position advises Mechanical Services Administration on budget, equipment acquisition, and performance, and failure analyses based on sound technical skill and empirical data.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan and review the activities of the in-house and contract workforce in the maintenance and repair of building mechanical systems/equipment.
  • Supervise all HVAC staff and ensure the effective management of the efforts of a skilled operation and maintenance workforce.
  • Diagnose equipment trouble, improve equipment performance, perform equipment failure analysis, choose between maintenance and purchasing options, and source tools, equipment, and supplies.
  • Monitor and maintain all DDC control systems associated with the power plants.
  • Complete employee disciplinary actions, hire and promote employees, provide training and development of employees, and prepare work schedules.
  • Schedule annual/semi-annual inspections of all equipment.
  • Establish safety training with campus safety officers.
  • Review construction documents prepared by Facilities Planning and outside architects.
  • Ensure the university complies with regulatory regulations and inspections.
  • Perform other related duties as required.

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Six (6) years of experience in repairing building mechanical systems to include troubleshooting fluid power and pneumatic systems, drive train component problems, boilers, air conditioning systems, heating systems, and piping system installation.
  • Two (2) years of experience operating boilers greater than 5HP or 50 ft2 and refrigeration equipment up to 1,500 tons.
  • Valid driver's license; Shelby County 1st class steam operating license; Shelby County 1st class refrigeration operating license.
  • Ability to lift 75 lbs.
  • Knowledge of Archibus application and Kronos Workforce Central is a plus.
  • Skill in performing proper operation and maintenance of a power plant including high-pressure boilers and chillers over 1300 tons.
  • Ability to manage contractors and projects.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
