YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide each patient and client with the utmost compassion and care.
  • Carry out basic to intermediate nursing tasks, monitor patients, and administer treatments.
  • Utilize knowledge of common illnesses and conditions, along with physical assessments, to effectively triage incoming patients.
  • Administer medications via subcutaneous, intramuscular, and intravenous routes, understanding potential side effects.
  • Set up, monitor, and deliver intravenous fluid therapy, including constant rate infusions and blood transfusions.
  • Collaborate as a team member in both outpatient and inpatient care.
  • Engage in patient rounds to ensure seamless continuity of care.
  • Become trained in all aspects of CPR as a RECOVER Certified Rescuer.
  • Collect samples and conduct diagnostic tests, including in-house and point-of-care assessments.
  • Assist in the setup, monitoring, and administration of sedation and surgical anesthesia under the supervision of licensed veterinary technicians or veterinarians.
  • Perform nursing tasks such as placing and maintaining urinary catheters and nasal oxygen tubes.
  • Set up, maintain, and troubleshoot oxygen cages and other oxygen delivery methods.
  • Work closely with veterinary nurses as an essential member of the nursing team.
  • Engage in ongoing training through guided growth pathways, leading to roles beyond direct nursing care, such as veterinary technician certification, training roles, community outreach, and leadership opportunities.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES FOR VETERINARY ASSISTANTS (WHERE PERMITTED)

  • Administer, monitor, and maintain patients under general anesthesia, with or without mechanical ventilation, for patients with varying risk levels.
  • Execute advanced vascular access techniques, including jugular catheter placement and central line placement.
  • Conduct advanced diagnostic procedures such as ultrasonography and paracentesis.
  • Contribute to the development of treatment, anesthetic, and nursing care plans.
  • Participate in guided growth pathways to pursue roles beyond direct nursing care, including training, care coordination, community outreach, and leadership.
