About the Position

This is an entry-level professional, technical, and administrative role in planning the implementation of information systems and/or technology projects within the Prince George's County Police Department.

Incumbents will provide technical assistance to employees within the Department, and may extend to providing technical research and assistance to other agencies, troubleshooting problems of a technical and administrative nature, and coordinating project activities.

Work is performed under close supervision and is evaluated in terms of accuracy, completeness, and adherence to policies and procedures.

Assignments require knowledge of software programs, database management/design, computer networks, servers, and Personnel Law, General Orders, and departmental rules, regulations, and ordinances, as well as the ability to communicate well with others.

Upon satisfactory completion of a probationary period, entry-level incumbents may be non-competitively promoted to the 2G full-performance level at management's discretion.

Examples of Work
  • Assists with the maintenance of accounts allowing users to access necessary portions of the county network and applicable computer programs.
  • Assists with installing, configuring, monitoring, and maintaining computer hardware, software applications, and operating systems.
  • Assists with implementing network upgrades.
  • Assists with implementing security measures for information systems to regulate access to computer data files and prevent unauthorized modification, destruction, or disclosure of information.
  • Assists with installing, configuring, and modifying telecommunications systems, equipment, and services.
  • Assists with implementing technical infrastructure policies and procedures.
  • Assists in resolving second-tier end-user support issues related to technical infrastructure, such as network access, Internet access, telecommunications, cellular network, servers, viruses, security, hardware, and software.
Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in information technology, business, or public administration, or a closely related field.

Any equivalent combination of relevant education, training, and experience may be considered.

Preferred qualifications include advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office 365 applications, experience with database languages, and experience with web use of HTML and XML.

Conditions of Employment

Upon selection, the candidate must pass a drug screening, pass a background investigation, possess and maintain a valid driver's license, be willing to work assigned shift work, meet all training and performance standards, and demonstrate proficiency as required by the agency.

Essential employees are expected to report during standard or non-standard hours as operations necessitate, or during emergencies.
