**Job Title:** Corrections Health Nurse

About the Position

This is a full-time role with the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office in Newport, OR.

**Compensation and Benefits**

The estimated hourly salary range for this position is $37.27 - $54.10. A $5,000 hiring bonus is also available. Compensation will be dependent on experience based on State of Oregon defined bona fide factors in accordance with Oregon's Pay Equity Act.

With an Associate's degree, the hourly rate is $38.76 - $52.09. With a Bachelor's degree, the hourly rate is $40.25 - $54.10.

**Responsibilities and Duties**

The Corrections Health Nurse will provide comprehensive health maintenance, preventive, and primary medical care, and treatment for adult inmates in a county corrections facility. They will also assist in the operation of the health care unit and develop, direct, coordinate, and evaluate professional nursing practices under the direction of the Sergeant.

  • Conduct and document initial and ongoing comprehensive and focused nursing assessments of the health status of patients.
  • Analyze data to derive a nursing diagnosis and priorities.
  • Develop and coordinate a comprehensive plan of nursing care to maintain continuity of treatment.
  • Administer medical and nursing treatments, including giving medications, titrating medications, daily detox assessments, and handling dressing changes.
**Requirements**

To be eligible for this position, applicants must have a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from an accredited school of nursing or an Associate degree in Nursing from an accredited school of nursing.

A minimum of 3 years' experience as a non-licensed or licensed caregiver is preferred. Applicants must also have current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification and a valid Oregon driver's license.

**Desirable Qualifications**

Applicants should be free of conviction of a crime designated under the law where the conviction occurred as being punishable as a felony or as a crime for which a maximum term of imprisonment of more than one year may be imposed.

They should also be able to pass a law enforcement background check and reside within two hours of the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office.

**Work Environment**

The work environment for this position is primarily indoors, often noisy, confined, crowded, hazardous, and potentially high risk. The job requires sitting for extended periods of time, moderate keyboarding, climbing stairs, and walking from area to area repeatedly.

Applicants may be exposed to abusive language, personal and familial threats, and possibility of physical assaults. They may also be required to respond to medical emergencies in a potentially hazardous and life-threatening environment.
