The Transplant Immunology Laboratory at Albany Medical Center is seeking a skilled Clinical Laboratory Technologist II to join our team of healthcare professionals. As a key member of our laboratory, you will be responsible for performing a variety of technical procedures, including HLA typing, antibody screening, and donor/recipient crossmatching. Your expertise will play a critical role in ensuring the accuracy and reliability of our test results, which are essential for the success of our transplant programs.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform HLA typing, antibody screening, and donor/recipient crossmatching procedures with high accuracy and attention to detail.
- Receive, accession, and aliquot blood specimens sent to the laboratory, ensuring timely and efficient processing.
- Prepare solutions, media, and reagents used in the laboratory, adhering to established protocols and quality control measures.
- Exercise independent judgment and responsibility to perform procedures and interpret test results, making informed decisions to ensure the quality and integrity of our test results.
- Assume on-call assignments for deceased donor testing, providing 24/7 coverage and support to our transplant programs.
- Record all results of tests conducted in the laboratory accurately and completely, maintaining detailed records for reporting and billing purposes.
- Assist in procuring, storing, and maintaining supplies, recommending the procurement of new or additional supplies as needed.
- Ensure the orderliness and cleanliness of the Transplant Immunology Laboratory and equipment maintenance, adhering to established safety and quality control protocols.
- Communicate effectively with transplant centers, departmental personnel, medical and nursing staff concerning technical and procedural issues relating to the department.
- Participate in the evaluation of new procedures, methods, and equipment within the Transplant Immunology Laboratory's activities, contributing to the continuous improvement of our laboratory services.
- Assist in training new technologists and providing information regarding job performance and policies and procedures of the Transplant Immunology Laboratory and Albany Medical Center.
- Assist with ongoing research and developmental activities relevant to histocompatibility and transplantation as directed.
- Ensure the technical quality of work performed, including accuracy, documentation, and thoroughness of procedures completed.
- Contact/consult with appropriate personnel when test findings are abnormal and when difficulties are encountered in testing.
- Demonstrate competence by performing external and internal proficiency testing, maintaining certification and licensure as required.
- Perform quality control procedures, maintain records within the laboratory, and document problems and remedial action as appropriate.
- Participate in the monitoring, evaluation, and continuous improvement of quality within the Transplant Immunology Laboratory.
- Participate in formal teaching programs, conferences, and in-service educational programs as required.
- Maintain knowledge of and follow all Albany Medical Center, NYSDOH, ASHI, and CMS regulations and technical standards.
- Practice appropriate personnel, fire, safety, infection control, and hazardous chemical policies and implement them accordingly.
Requirements:
- New York State Clinical Laboratory Technologist License or New York State Restricted License in Histocompatibility or currently eligible for either of these. NYS license requirements can be found here.
- Three years of relevant experience as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist I in histocompatibility testing; or one (1) year experience in histocompatibility testing and ABHI Certified Histocompatibility Technologist/Associate (CHT/CHA) certification.
- Maintain continuing education as required by the NYS Dept. of Health, ABHI, and ASHI and maintains ABHI CHT/CHA certification and MT(ASCP) if applicable.
