Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled HRAC Instrumentation Specialist to join our team at AKIMA. As a key member of our mechanical section, you will be responsible for performing skilled work and resolving technical issues in the installation, maintenance, repair, and calibration of Heating, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning (HRAC) systems' electronic and mechanical instruments, controls, and circuits.

Key Responsibilities
  • Installation and Maintenance: Installs, implements, modifies, upgrades, and performs Preventive Maintenance to control systems, including software programming and programming new controls.
  • Technical Expertise: Provides technical assistance and guidance to HRAC Mechanics required to perform skilled technical work in installation, testing, calibration, maintenance, and repair of process controls, instrumentation, and data reporting systems/subsystems for HRAC systems.
  • Quality Assurance: Performs quality assurance inspections on completed control and instrumentation jobs, ensuring conformance with institutional standards, mechanical codes, OSHA regulations, lock out-tag out, confined space protocols, Material Safety Data Sheets, engineering specifications, and other regulatory requirements.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Uses a computer to create, compose, and edit technical and/or administrative reports and documentation.
  • Coordination and Monitoring: Coordinates and monitors maintenance by outside contractors, including replacement and repair of mechanical, electromechanical, and controls equipment.
  • Training and Development: Supports, provides technical assistance, guidance, and instructions to HRAC mechanics on DDC control systems, used to control the mechanical equipment.
  • Interface with Government Personnel: Interfaces with the appropriate government personnel to assure the RSA Garrison's DDC Operating Platform is maintained to government and industry standards.
  • Software Upgrades: Upgrades HRAC laptops and workstation's software on a continuous basis, to keep current with changes and/or upgrades in control systems software.
  • Reading and Interpretation: Reads, interprets, and modifies HRAC electrical, electronic and/or microprocessor schematics blueprints and logic controls.
  • Coordination with Other Trades: Coordinates with other trade and warehouse personnel in the identification of proper and correct materials, parts assemblies, and requirements for a variety of requisitions necessary for the job/task.
Requirements
  • Education and Experience: Any combination equivalent to experience and education that could likely provide the required knowledge, abilities, and skills listed above would be qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be: Experience – Sufficient years experience in the maintenance and repair of instrumentation and electronic systems such as found in HRAC systems to include direct digital controls. Must be able to perform described tasks on Trane, Honeywell, and Delta (DDC) systems as well as other systems. Education – Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade supplemented by the equivalent three years of technical course work in electronics or instrumentation.
  • Communication and Organizational Skills: Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills, tactful and cooperative in dealing with others, and speaks and understands English. Must have organizing and coordinating skills.
  • Knowledge and Abilities: Must have knowledge of theory behind instrumentation and control systems/equipment, programmable logic controllers, control systems software, pneumatic and hydraulic systems, operation of flow and level, frequency-based process control systems, alarms systems, and mechanical codes. Must have ability to work in elevated locations. Must have the ability and skilled in the use of personal computers and related software applications. Must have ability to analyze, assess, and reconfigure technical operations within area of specialty.
  • Certifications and Training: Must possess Universal 410-A Safety & Training Certification or ability to obtain within 120 days. Must have the ability to successfully accomplish, complete, and/or pass, any Continuing Education (CE) training deemed necessary. Must possess the Honeywell WEBs-N4 Certification.
Working Conditions
  • Physical Demands: Work is in a variety of weather conditions, frequently in cramped conditions such as in electrical cabinets and mechanical rooms and may be required in hazardous or emergency situations. Requires the close observation of digital or analog displays and data printouts to determine compliance with performance standards. Must be able to distinguish color codes on wires and electronic devices and perform precise muscular movements of hands.
  • Environmental Factors: Some tasks, such as installation and maintenance, entail climbing ladders and working at heights over 10 feet above the ground. Maintenance and repair projects may necessitate the use of small hand tools such as saws, hammers, and screwdrivers. Transportation of equipment to a job site may require carrying 20–50-pound objects for short distances over rough and uneven ground. Alarm sirens at the work site require that technicians be able to hear audible warning devices. Work in confined space may require the use of a self-contained breathing apparatus.
Authorities and Limitations on Authority
  • Work Independently: Works independently. Provides general supervision. Assignments may involve providing technical guidance to other technical and maintenance personnel.
  • Accountability: Accountable to the Mechanical Section Supervisor for accomplishing assigned functions in accordance with contract requirements, Army/DoD regulations, and applicable federal and state laws and codes.
