Job Opportunity: Flood Risk Engineer

Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance (BHSI) is seeking a highly skilled Flood Risk Engineer to join our Catastrophe Engineering and Analytics (CAT E&A) team. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for determining and presenting BHSI's view of flood risk for individual customer's property portfolios.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct flood risk evaluations using vendor models and internal tools.
  • Assist with individual underwriting decisions and perform risk accumulation analyses.
  • Work with our team to refine BHSI's internal flood view and other natural catastrophe risks.
  • Contribute to all aspects of natural catastrophe analytics.

Requirements:

  • Master's degree in water resources engineering, hydrology, hydraulics, or related discipline.
  • Strong understanding of hydrologic and hydraulic modeling.
  • Knowledge of probability and statistics.
  • Strong programming skills (e.g., Python, R, MATLAB, SQL).
  • Expert GIS knowledge (QGIS, ArcGIS or equivalent) preferred.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Highly motivated, detail oriented, and team player.
