The primary duty of a Judicial Center Security Officer is to ensure the safety and security of the judicial facilities in Hastings, Apple Valley, and Mendota Heights.

Additionally, you may be tasked with assisting detention services personnel with specific responsibilities aimed at enhancing operational efficiency and community service.

A Judicial Center Security Officer may also be required to provide security during court proceedings and escort detainees as necessary.

This role entails responding to emergencies, enforcing regulations, and adhering to directives. The position operates Monday through Friday with 8-hour shifts or 10-hour shifts depending on assignment. Successful completion of a thorough background check, medical evaluation, and drug screening is mandatory.

Minimum qualifications include a High School Graduation/GED AND two years of full-time work experience from any industry or employer. Part-time experience can be converted to full-time equivalents (e.g., 20 hours per week for 2 years equals 1 year full-time). Years of experience should not be rounded up (e.g., 2 years 9 months equals 2 years).

Alternatively,

A combination of post-high school education (e.g., completed coursework with an unfinished degree) AND full-time work experience from any industry or employer totaling two years.

A completed 2 or 4-year degree in any field.

Candidates for employment with the Dakota County Sheriff's Office must comply with Minnesota Administrative Rule, Minimum Selection Standards, which require all candidates to be citizens of the United States.

General Responsibilities include:
Building Security at all three Judicial Centers (primary)
Conducting foot patrols, interior and exterior checks, and monitoring door security.
Assisting with building emergency response protocols (medical, fire, severe weather, bomb threats, etc.)
Engaging with the public and staff to foster positive relationships.
Observing and reporting any building, health, and safety concerns to the appropriate personnel.
Performing proactive security measures and responding to service calls as needed.
Participating in meetings related to emergency or security matters.
Monitoring activities in person and through security cameras.
Escorting detainees between the jail and court holding areas.
Supervising detainees while in court holding.
Ensuring safety at the courthouse by assisting at the Point of Entry.
Answering phones and monitoring courtroom security cameras at the court security desk.
Monitoring radio communications and responding to service calls or emergencies as required.
Providing courtroom security and maintaining decorum as directed by a supervisor.
Utilizing appropriate restraints, escort, and supervision techniques when managing detainees.
Transporting detainees to the county jail.
Work Environment
Work is conducted in a county office building, court holding facility, hospital facility, and transport vehicles. Travel is necessary. Lifting 10 to 50 pounds daily, carrying 25 pounds daily, and pushing/pulling/lifting over 100 pounds weekly. Standing or walking for 8 to 12 hours daily. Running and kneeling frequently in response to emergencies or disturbances.

Exposure to unpleasant odors (e.g., body odors, dirty clothing, human waste), bodily fluids, hazardous chemicals, communicable diseases (e.g., TB, hepatitis, AIDS), mentally unstable individuals, and individuals under the influence of controlled substances.

Exposure to environmental conditions such as fumes, odors, dust, gases, and poor ventilation; hazardous materials such as chemicals, blood, and other bodily fluids.

Equipment utilized may include but is not limited to, a computer, printer, telephone, calculator, 2-way radios, body-worn camera, chemical agents, handcuffs, restraints, copy and fax machines, alco sensor, first aid kit, defibrillator, oxygen, and Minnesota Rule 2911.
