Position Overview:

Role Summary

The Mechanical Engineer will be an integral part of a collaborative team within the Design Engineering division, focusing on the design, prototyping, and production release of enclosures and chassis for industrial electrical systems. This role demands adherence to size, weight, and thermal specifications while ensuring compliance with industry standards such as UL1012, CE, NEMA, and IP enclosure ratings.

Key Responsibilities:

As a Mechanical Engineer, your primary duties will include:

  • Developing and assessing designs for chassis and enclosures tailored for industrial electrical systems.
  • Engaging in cross-disciplinary design reviews throughout the design, prototyping, and production stages.
  • Creating comprehensive design documentation, including mechanical sheet metal and assembly drawings along with associated Bills of Materials (BOMs), in line with company policies.
  • Managing the release of drawing packages via the company's drawing control system and Engineering Change Notice (ECN) process.
  • Collaborating with electrical design engineers, testing and evaluation teams, manufacturing staff, procurement personnel, and suppliers.
  • Aligning mechanical design requirements with electrical schematics and wiring specifications.
  • Applying industrial standards such as ANSI and ASME to the design of enclosures and components.
  • Ensuring familiarity with UL and CE mark standards relevant to enclosure requirements.
  • Providing technical assistance to the production team to resolve manufacturing challenges.
  • Conducting root cause analysis and implementing corrective actions for failure investigations.
  • Working with suppliers to guarantee that mechanical components are manufactured according to specifications.
  • Evaluating and making decisions on rejected parts and assemblies.
  • Performing additional tasks as assigned.

Qualifications:

Required Skills and Experience
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks in a dynamic environment.
  • Proficient in troubleshooting and refining designs, with a focus on engineering and implementing effective solutions.
  • Innovative problem solver with a pragmatic approach to achieving viable solutions.
  • Experience in designing high-power electronic assemblies and packaging.
  • Familiarity with ERP systems, BOM development, ECN processes, and ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management Systems.
  • Self-motivated individual capable of working with minimal supervision.
  • Proficient in 3D modeling software (SolidWorks, AutoCAD) and Microsoft Office; knowledge of PDM systems is advantageous.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively engage across various disciplines.
  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years in industrial electronic product design and manufacturing.
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to climb stairs, sit, use a keyboard, and possess visual and auditory capabilities to communicate effectively in English.
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET-accredited institution.
  • Citizenship: Must possess documented US Citizenship or Legal Permanent Resident status.
