Job Overview

At UPSLOPE ADVISORS, INC, we are seeking a skilled Data Scientist to join our team in support of a Government Agency's disaster loan programs. This is an exciting opportunity to work with a diverse and innovative technical team to expedite SBA disaster recovery loan making, thereby accelerating recovery for families, businesses, and communities.

About the Role

This Data Scientist will provide critical insights and expertise on how to exploit Agency and external datasets to deliver actionable recommendations for improving the potential for and disbursement of disaster recovery loans. The successful candidate will work closely with our team to identify patterns and trends in datasets, create algorithms and data models to forecast outcomes, and employ machine learning techniques to enhance the quality of data or product offerings.

Responsibilities

The ideal candidate will be responsible for:
  • Finding patterns and trends in datasets to uncover valuable insights
  • Developing and deploying custom data analytics applications to meet business requirements
  • Building and maintaining relationships with stakeholders to communicate recommendations and facilitate collaboration
  • Staying up-to-date with innovations in the data science field and identifying opportunities to apply emerging technologies

Requirements

To succeed in this role, you will need:
  • A Bachelor's degree in mathematics, statistics, computer science, data science, or a related field
  • Demonstrated experience with data analytical processes and limitations, as well as custom data analytics application development
  • Strong proficiency in Python coding and the ability to tailor existing codes to meet business needs
  • General professionalism, including the ability to remain productive and connected when working remotely

Desired Skills

We are looking for candidates with technical expertise in:
  • Python, R, or other commonly used languages for data processing and exploitation
  • Business intelligence software (e.g., Power BI, Tableau)

Additionally, familiarity with Agency recovery missions, FEMA's GIS activities, or other disaster-related applications of data is highly desirable.

What We Offer

In return for your expertise, we offer a competitive salary of $120,000 - $150,000 per year, commensurate with experience, plus benefits and opportunities for growth and professional development.
