Position Overview

This role is essential for ensuring the upkeep and safety of facilities under the jurisdiction of the U.S. Department of the Interior. The incumbent will engage in various maintenance activities to uphold a clean and functional environment for both employees and visitors.

Key Responsibilities

The responsibilities of this position encompass a range of maintenance tasks, including but not limited to:

  • Adhering to safe work practices to mitigate hazards and ensure a secure environment.
  • Performing custodial duties and grounds maintenance to enhance the aesthetic and functional quality of the premises.
  • Conducting routine maintenance to sanitize and preserve building integrity.
  • Providing assistance to visitors and administering first aid when necessary.

The successful candidate will be tasked with:

  • Operating industrial cleaning equipment for floor maintenance, including scrubbing, waxing, and polishing.
  • Washing walls and fixtures, and managing the upkeep of blinds and partitions.
  • Handling heavy furniture and supplies, and ensuring restrooms are stocked with necessary paper goods.

Additional duties will involve:

  • Maintaining various floor and wall surfaces, removing stains using appropriate cleaning agents.
  • Performing minor repairs and maintenance on equipment, including lawn care tools.
  • Executing painting tasks as needed within facilities and on external grounds.
  • Clearing ice and snow from walkways and operating snow removal equipment safely.
  • Conducting general maintenance tasks such as changing light bulbs and repairing plumbing fixtures.

Employment Conditions

Candidates must meet the following conditions:

  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • Background investigation and favorable adjudication are mandatory.
  • A valid driver's license is necessary for operating government vehicles.
  • Compliance with uniform standards is expected, with an allowance provided.
  • Flexibility to work overtime, weekends, and holidays may be required.

Qualifications

Applicants should possess relevant experience and training that demonstrates their capability to fulfill the duties outlined. Volunteer experience will also be considered in evaluating qualifications.

Education

There is no educational substitution for experience required for this position.
