Position Overview
This Sanitation Specialist role involves a range of laundry services, cleaning tasks, and other related responsibilities essential for maintaining remote industrial housing facilities, dining areas, office spaces, and similar environments in a pristine and organized state.
This position is responsible for the efficient transportation of products, supplies, and equipment between facilities.
Work Schedule
This night sanitation position operates in Valdez, Alaska, with a schedule from Sunday to Thursday. The shift lasts 10 hours, commencing at 6:00 PM and concluding at 4:30 AM, offering an hourly wage of $19, with overtime compensated at time and a half. A $2,000 signing incentive is available, distributed based on tenure: $500 after three months, $500 after six months, and $1,000 after one year of service.
Key Responsibilities
- Adhere to safe work practices and utilize appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) while performing all tasks.
- Conduct cleaning activities including vacuuming, mopping, and restocking in hallways, staircases, offices, food preparation areas, kitchens, laundry rooms, clinics, living quarters, workspaces, common areas, restrooms, and other similar locations.
- Perform various floor maintenance tasks such as sweeping, scrubbing, stripping, extracting, waxing, and buffing.
- Dust surfaces at varying heights and wipe down various surfaces using suitable cleaning equipment and solutions.
- Manage waste by removing and properly disposing of discarded materials, compacting trash, and transporting it to designated disposal areas.
- Change light bulbs and execute minor facility maintenance tasks as needed.
- Maintain cleanliness in building entryways by removing snow and debris.
- Participate in corporate safety initiatives and may operate a vehicle to access satellite locations.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- A combination of education and experience demonstrating knowledge of cleaning equipment and general cleaning procedures.
- Ability to obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) within 30 days of hire.
- Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record for the past three years to meet vehicle insurance requirements.
- Successful completion of pre-employment contract requirements, including drug testing, physical assessments, and hearing tests.
- Must be able to collaborate effectively with team members, clients, and customers.
- Capable of making decisions independently with minimal supervision.
- Ability to remain on feet for 10-12 hours during shifts.
- Proficiency in speaking, understanding, reading, and writing English is required.
Working Conditions
- Exposure to indoor and outdoor environments, frequently in arctic conditions.
- Moderate to loud noise levels may be present.
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to lift and carry weights as specified in the fit-for-duty test, including lifting 48 lbs. from floor to knuckle and waist, and carrying 38 lbs. for a minimum distance of 30 feet.
- Ability to perform various physical tasks including pushing, pulling, squatting, kneeling, and climbing stairs.
