Garden Horticulturist

At Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden, we are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Garden Horticulturist to join our team. As a key member of our Horticulture Department, you will play a vital role in maintaining and caring for our 14-acre garden, ensuring that our visitors experience the beauty and wonder of nature.

• Collaborate with our Horticulture Team to develop and implement horticultural displays and programs that showcase the garden's unique plant collections.
• Oversee the maintenance and care of all garden plant life, including pruning, weeding, and hand watering.
• Work closely with our Garden Curator to ensure accurate plant labeling and tracking, following established plant records management standards.
• Provide excellent customer service to our visitors, answering horticulture-related questions and engaging with guests to enhance their experience.
• Collaborate with our volunteers, providing training, scheduling, and management of horticultural maintenance and projects.
• Support all Garden programs and events, ensuring that our horticultural displays and activities are integrated into the overall visitor experience.

• Well-rounded knowledge and experience in public horticulture, including a wide variety of plant species and maintenance techniques.
• Creative ability to design and install plant-based displays that showcase the garden's unique plant collections.
• Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to interact with a diverse audience, including visitors, staff, and volunteers.
• Ability to work evenings and weekends to meet the garden's needs, as well as independently and as part of a team.
• Computer skills, including Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, as well as a valid driver's license and a clean driving record.

• Frequent climbing, balancing, crawling, kneeling, walking, bending, stooping, lifting, carrying, grasping, twisting, reaching, pushing, and pulling.
• Occasional sitting.

• High school diploma and 3 years of experience in large-scale display gardens or botanical collections, with a preference for relevant experience in temperature hardiness zones.
• Bachelor's degree in Horticulture or a related field of study, with a minimum of 3+ years of public horticulture experience.
