Garden Horticulturist Specialist

As a key member of the Horticulture Department at Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden, the Garden Horticulturist will play a vital role in maintaining and enhancing the beauty of our gardens. This position requires a highly skilled and detail-oriented individual who can work independently and as part of a team to deliver exceptional results.

• Oversee and maintain all public garden areas, ensuring they are safe, tidy, and weed-free.
• Collaborate with the horticulture team to identify new projects, renovations, and displays, and coordinate execution with the Director of Horticulture.
• Support an active Integrated Pest Management (IPM) program, including scouting and conventional and progressive control methods.
• Provide excellent customer service to guests, answering general horticulture questions and engaging with visitors.
• Collaborate with Garden volunteers, providing oversight, training, and management of horticultural maintenance and projects.

• Ability to work evenings and weekends to meet Garden needs.
• Ability to work in a team and independently.
• Valid driver's license and clean driving record.
• Willingness to wear a uniform and work outside.
• Commitment to serving all guests equally, regardless of their background or identity.

• Frequent climbing, balancing, crawling, kneeling, walking, bending, stooping, lifting, carrying, grasping, twisting, reaching, pushing, and pulling.
• Lifting 50+ pounds.

• High school diploma and 3 years of experience in large-scale display gardens or botanical collections.
• Bachelor's degree in Horticulture or a related field preferred.
• Minimum of 3+ years of public horticulture experience.
• Computer skills, including Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
• Well-rounded knowledge and experience understanding, maintaining, and working with a wide variety of plant species and public horticulture.
