Job Description

A Surgical Scrub Technician at North Idaho Dermatology assists plastic surgeons on an as-needed basis, ensuring a sterile environment and providing necessary instruments and materials during surgery. This role requires flexibility, precision, attention to detail, and a thorough understanding of surgical protocols and techniques specific to plastic surgery.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare the operating room for surgery by ensuring all necessary equipment and instruments are sterilized and arranged.
  • Assist in positioning patients for surgery, ensuring comfort and safety.
  • Verify patient identity and confirm the surgical site according to established protocols.
  • Hand instruments and materials to the surgeon during procedures, anticipating needs.
  • Operate and maintain surgical equipment, such as suction machines and electrosurgical units.
  • Monitor and maintain a sterile field to prevent infection.
  • Assist in managing specimens collected during surgery for laboratory analysis.
  • Assist in applying dressings and bandages post-surgery.
  • Help in transferring patients to recovery areas, ensuring all postoperative protocols are followed.
  • Clean and restock the operating room after procedures.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed records of surgical procedures, including instrument counts and patient information.
  • Coordinate with the surgical team and other healthcare professionals to ensure optimal patient care.
  • Participate in team meetings and training, contributing to continuous improvement efforts.

  • Strong understanding of surgical procedures and medical terminology.

Position Requirements:

  • Completion of an accredited surgical technology program.
  • Certification as a Surgical Technician (CST) is preferred.
  • Previous experience in plastic surgery or a related surgical field is highly desirable.
  • Proficiency in aseptic techniques and surgical instrumentation.
  • Experienced with Electronic Medical Records (EMR) keeping systems, preferably EMA.
  • Ability to read and follow written and oral medical orders.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to work as a team member.
  • Well-organized with attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Treats patients and co-workers with respect.
