Overview:
Real Options for City Kids (R.O.C.K.) is a distinguished nonprofit organization dedicated to fostering hope and opportunities for children and youth in underserved communities. Our mission focuses on nurturing the healthy development of children by providing access to a variety of enriching programs. We currently support over 900 children (ages 6-17) through initiatives that promote social and emotional well-being, enhance academic performance, and expand life experiences.
Role Summary:
The Literacy Coordinator will primarily engage with students and educational staff, facilitating literacy development initiatives. This role also includes collaboration with a team of literacy professionals from partner organizations to enhance training and professional growth.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and implement effective literacy training programs for R.O.C.K. literacy staff.
- Deliver high-quality professional development focused on literacy best practices and foundational reading skills.
- Model and instruct innovative literacy intervention strategies.
- Guide literacy staff in utilizing evidence-based assessments to tailor interventions for students.
- Analyze literacy data to identify trends and support instructional adjustments.
- Communicate progress on literacy initiatives with organizational and school leadership.
- Oversee literacy partnerships, including organizing reading groups and monitoring student progress.
- Participate in all literacy-related meetings and professional development sessions.
- Foster positive relationships with students, staff, and families.
- Act as a mentor and role model for both children and colleagues.
- Assist in the planning of literacy-focused events and workshops.
- Engage in student performance data analysis and academic tracking.
- Implement positive discipline strategies and restorative practices.
- Create a safe and respectful learning environment.
- Attend regular staff meetings and program events.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 3 years of experience with specialized literacy curricula.
- Understanding of child literacy development processes.
- Demonstrated success in supporting struggling readers.
- Commitment to working with underserved populations.
- Reliable transportation for program-related activities.
- Bilingual abilities in Spanish, Cantonese, or Samoan are advantageous.
- 48 college credits from an accredited institution or successful completion of the Instructional Aide Exam.
- Proof of a negative TB screening within the last four years.
- COVID-19 vaccination and booster required.
- Background check required post-offer, in compliance with local ordinances.
