Job Summary

As a Medical Laboratory Specialist at Advocate Aurora Health, you will play a vital role in ensuring the accuracy and reliability of laboratory test results. This position requires a strong foundation in medical laboratory science, with a focus on performing and evaluating laboratory tests, calibrating and maintaining equipment, and providing technical assistance to colleagues.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform and evaluate laboratory tests, including transfusion services, microbiology, chemistry, hematology, histology, coagulation, and flow cytometry.
  • Calibrate and maintain laboratory equipment, recognizing indicators of malfunction and implementing corrective actions.
  • Provide technical assistance to medical laboratory technicians, phlebotomists, and support staff, including training and competency review.
  • Assist in improving laboratory procedures, policies, and processes, ensuring compliance with accrediting agency standards.
  • Participate in internal and external proficiency testing, performing specialty testing as needed.

Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in Medical Technology or a related field, or equivalent education and training.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to handle stressful situations in a calm and professional manner.
  • Ability to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods, with occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds.
