Optical Communications Engineer

Fibertek is seeking an experienced Optical Communications Engineer to join our Herndon, VA team. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for designing and building optical space terminals, including optical inter-satellite links (OISL) and direct to earth links.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Design and build optical space terminals, including OISL and direct to earth links
  • Conduct performance and environmental verification testing for space
  • Work with a collaborative team of engineers to design and build satellite-based optical communications laser terminals
Requirements:
  • BS in Physics, Optical Engineering, or related field with a minimum of 3 years of experience
  • Hands-on experience with optical systems design, building, and characterization
  • Knowledge of laser theory and industry best practices associated with fiber laser systems
  • Ability to design and execute experiments validating communications system performance
Desired Qualifications:
  • Experience working in an aerospace environment, including environmental test capability of hardware
  • Experience with modeling and simulation of optical systems using industry-standard tools
  • Ability to develop innovative solutions to complex challenges
