Senior Optical Communications Engineer

Fibertek, Inc. is a leading developer of cutting-edge laser and electro-optic systems for the aerospace community. We are seeking a highly skilled individual to join our Research and Development Division in Herndon, VA.

As an optical communications engineer, you will be responsible for designing and building advanced optical space terminals. Your work will include:

Key Responsibilities
  • Designing and developing optical space lasercom systems
  • Leading the building of space flight optical flight terminals
  • Performing performance and environmental verification testing for space
  • Collaborating with a multidisciplinary team of engineers to develop next-generation laser communication terminals and optical modems
Requirements
  • MS or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or related field with a minimum of 7 years of direct hands-on experience in designing, building, and characterizing optical systems
  • Knowledge of telecommunications standards and industry best practices
  • Ability to design and execute experiments validating communications system performance
  • Experience with modeling and simulation of optical systems using industry-standard tools
  • Strong communication and documentation skills for efficient multidisciplinary coordination
