Job Summary

The Energy Healthcare Engineer position at the Veterans Affairs, Veterans Health Administration is a critical role that requires a strong background in energy management and sustainability. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing energy programs at one or more Medical Centers, including owned and leased space, and will work closely with other Energy Managers within the VISN to achieve VISN-wide and VHA energy goals.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement energy conservation measures to reduce energy consumption and costs
  • Manage energy programs, including utility systems optimization, water reductions, and resiliency addressing Climate Change
  • Collaborate with the VISN Capital Asset Manager to provide technical support for initiatives and programs
  • Conduct energy audits and assessments to identify opportunities for energy savings
  • Develop and implement energy-efficient technologies and practices
  • Monitor and report on energy usage and costs
  • Develop and implement sustainability and climate change adaptation programs
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Architecture from an accredited institution
  • At least one year of experience in energy management or a related field
  • Knowledge of energy systems, including building envelopes, HVAC controls, steam distribution, and lighting
  • Knowledge of mechanical, electrical, structural, civil, and other engineering/architectural principles and practices
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working in a healthcare setting
  • Knowledge of energy-efficient technologies and practices
  • Experience with energy management software and tools
