Position Overview
The Clinical Respiratory Care Specialist plays a vital role in delivering high-quality respiratory therapy services within a healthcare setting. This position involves a range of responsibilities aimed at ensuring optimal patient care and equipment management.
Duties and Responsibilities
30% - Equipment Management
- Evaluates the necessity for respiratory devices such as ventilators, Bi-PAP/CPAP, and aerosol equipment, adhering to established departmental protocols.
- Effectively communicates equipment requirements to colleagues and other healthcare professionals as necessary.
- Efficiently sets up and operates ventilators, Bi-PAP/CPAP, and aerosol equipment in line with current clinical standards and departmental policies.
- Ensures all respiratory equipment is maintained according to manufacturer specifications and departmental guidelines.
- Stays informed about advancements in respiratory therapy technology.
- Demonstrates cost-effective practices in the utilization of equipment and supplies.
- Identifies and implements opportunities for enhancing the use of equipment and supplies.
30% - Therapeutic Procedures
- Assesses the need for various respiratory therapy procedures, including nebulizer treatments, metered-dose inhaler applications, incentive spirometry, and airway clearance techniques, in accordance with departmental protocols.
- Administers a variety of respiratory therapy procedures while adhering to clinical standards and departmental policies.
- Communicates necessary adjustments in therapy to colleagues and other members of the healthcare team as appropriate.
- Remains current with the latest respiratory therapy procedures.
- Exhibits compassion and sensitivity towards patients, families, and colleagues during therapy delivery.
- Systematically organizes and prioritizes tasks to enhance productivity.
- Identifies areas for improvement in patient care and departmental operations.
5% - Diagnostic Procedures
- Conducts bedside diagnostic assessments, including pulmonary function tests, pulse oximetry, and capnometry, in accordance with hospital and departmental policies.
- Communicates findings to relevant healthcare team members.
- Recommends appropriate therapies or modifications based on diagnostic results, following hospital and departmental standards.
- Demonstrates compassion and sensitivity while performing diagnostic tests.
10% - Blood Analysis
- Collects arterial blood samples and performs comprehensive blood analysis, including gas analysis, in compliance with departmental and credentialing standards.
- Suggests appropriate therapies or changes based on analysis results.
- Communicates findings and therapy recommendations to other healthcare professionals as necessary.
- Conducts quality monitoring in accordance with departmental guidelines.
10% - Patient Education
- Evaluates the educational needs of patients and their families, providing tailored instruction to address unique circumstances.
- Documents educational outcomes in compliance with departmental and hospital policies.
- Offers guidance and mentorship to staff and students as required.
5% - Leadership Responsibilities
- Takes charge of departmental operations as the lead therapist.
- Ensures adherence to all hospital and departmental policies.
- Organizes and adjusts staff workloads to ensure high-quality patient care and maximum productivity.
5% - Emergency Response
- Trained to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation as needed.
5% - Home Care Coordination
- Assesses the need for and assists in arranging home oxygen and respiratory therapy equipment for patients.
