Eversource Energy is seeking a Lead Engineer, Power Transmission to join our team. This role involves minimal supervision and focuses on conducting engineering and economic assessments related to the clean energy transition in the New England region. You will be responsible for preparing and submitting various reports, presentations, and compliance documents concerning Eversource transmission initiatives to ISO New England. Additionally, you will act as a subject matter expert in transmission engineering across state, regional, and federal platforms.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct engineering analyses including power flow, economic capacity expansion, production cost, and probabilistic modeling of the New England energy system. Oversee external consultants engaged for technical analysis while also performing independent studies.
  • Evaluate existing projects and proposals through engineering studies, interpreting findings to provide strategic insights.
  • Offer expertise to state procurement evaluation teams on issues related to transmission networks and interconnections.
  • Assess the implications of federal, regional, and state policy proposals on Eversource and its clientele.
  • Formulate recommended policy positions and collaborate with internal stakeholders to achieve consensus on strategic initiatives.
  • Create analytical products, visualizations, and research materials to bolster policy recommendations and outreach efforts.
  • Examine technical reports regarding the operational and economic effects of clean energy resources on the electric transmission and distribution systems in New England.
  • Represent Eversource in regional and national advisory committees, including NEPOOL committees and trade associations.
  • Potentially serve as an expert witness in regulatory proceedings at the state level.
  • Lead collaborative efforts among internal stakeholders to develop unified strategies.
  • Support outreach and advocacy initiatives directed at external stakeholders.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

Technical Skills:

  • Proficient in performing technical engineering analyses using industry-standard tools such as PSS/E and TARA, with the ability to derive strategic insights from the results.
  • Skilled in conducting economic analyses with tools like ProMod and PLEXOS, interpreting outcomes for strategic guidance.
  • Capable of developing and editing software programs that manage data flows into and out of engineering and economic simulation models.
  • Comprehensive understanding of state and federal utility regulations.
  • Familiarity with ISO/RTO processes and rules, particularly regarding transmission planning and interconnections.
  • Solid grasp of economic principles and wholesale electricity markets.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, demonstrating strong analytical capabilities and strategic thinking.
  • In-depth technical knowledge of the New England transmission grid.

Educational Background:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering is required.
  • A Master's degree in Engineering is preferred.

Experience:

  • 5 to 8 years of relevant experience in the field.
  • Experience in regulatory proceedings is advantageous but not mandatory.
