Tool and Die Fabricator

Job Summary: We are seeking a skilled Tool & Die Maker to join our team at STROM MINNESOTA. As a Tool & Die Maker, you will be responsible for analyzing specifications, laying out metal stock, setting up and operating machine tools, and fitting and assembling parts to fabricate and repair metalworking dies, cutting tools, jigs and fixtures, gauges, and machinists hand tools.
Key Responsibilities:- Study specifications such as blueprints, sketches, models, or descriptions to determine materials required to fabricate parts.
- Compute dimensions, plan layout, and determine assembly method and sequence of operations.
- Measure, mark, and scribe metal stock for machining.
- Set up and operate machine tools and verify conformance of machined parts to specifications.
- Fabricate and repair metalworking dies, cutting tools, jigs and fixtures, gauges, and machinists hand tools.
- Verify dimensions, clearances, and alignment of members and parts in die.
- Heat treat tools or parts.
- Examine standard or previously used dies, tools, and jigs and fixtures and recommend design modifications.
- Develop specifications from general descriptions for specialty tools and draw or sketch design of product.
- Assemble die or mold and verify dimensions.
- Polish die member and measure and mark die block to lay out designs of cavities.
- Set up and operate a variety of machine tools to machine cavities in die block.
- Inspect die cavities to verify conformance to specifications.
- Consult with supervisor and more experienced tool & die makers to solve metal forming problems.
- Maintain work area in a clean and safe manner.
- Two-year certificate from college or technical school; or five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.
- Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
