Job Summary

Hodges Care Home is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Direct Support Professional to join our team. As a Direct Support Professional, you will play a vital role in supporting individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities in achieving their highest potential.

Key Responsibilities
  • Transport residents to medical, dental, and social activities, ensuring their safety and well-being.
  • Assist with coordination of residents' healthcare, including monitoring physical and emotional wellness.
  • Provide supervision and coaching during community and recreational outings, promoting socialization and independence.
  • Prepare meals and store food in compliance with regulations and program guidelines.
  • Respond to emergencies, including medical, natural disasters, and behavioral incidents, prioritizing resident safety.
  • Assist with maintenance and sanitation of the home and surroundings, maintaining a clean and safe environment.
  • Record data and maintain files regarding residents' health, progress, and special incidents, adhering to Title 17, Title 22, and Alegria program design.
  • Document daily status and changes related to residents' goals, ensuring accurate and timely reporting.
  • Assist in maintaining administrative records, resident files, home inventories, and weekly schedules as needed.
  • Advocate on behalf of each resident, upholding respectful and efficient communication with residents and relevant parties.
  • Attend required trainings and staff meetings, staying informed and up-to-date on best practices.
  • Follow directives from the Home Administrator or Lead Staff, demonstrating teamwork and collaboration.
Requirements
  • Prior experience providing direct care and supervision to individuals with special needs is preferred.
  • Excellent communication skills, with a respectful and positive attitude toward residents, co-workers, contractors, and home visitors.
  • Complete required staff training and a minimum of 12 hours continuing education annually.
  • Complete orientation and on-the-job training within the first month of employment.
  • Work weekend, holiday, and overnight shifts as required.
  • Complete DSP 1 training or test for and pass DSP 1 certification within the first year of employment.
  • Complete DSP 2 training or test for and pass DSP 2 certification within the second year of employment.
Qualifications
  • Minimum age 18
  • High school diploma or GED certificate
  • Health screen and TB clearance
  • Fingerprinting and clear criminal record
  • Covid-19 test
  • CPR and first aid training
  • Valid and current California driver's license
  • Clear driving record
  • Able to lift 75 lbs. (to transfer individuals)
