Lead Physical Therapist, Principal

Job Summary:
The Physical Therapist is responsible for assessing and treating children identified by the educational institution as having disabilities, in accordance with Part 200 Regulations/IDEA.

The therapist applies developmental principles to establish guidelines for implementing the child's Individualized Education Program (IEP) to deliver appropriate treatment.

Services are provided in compliance with all regulatory bodies, school policies, and the NYS Physical Therapy Act.

Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree or higher in Physical Therapy from an APTA-accredited institution.

Valid New York State License/Registration.

Job Responsibilities:
1. Assess children with known or suspected disabilities relevant to assigned cases (e.g., EV1P's).

2. Collaborate in planning meetings with the school district, parents, and members of the CPSE and CSE.

3. Deliver treatment aligned with the child's IEP.

4. Complete all necessary documentation within specified timeframes, including daily notes, quarterly progress reports, annual reviews, and EZ Trac entries.

5. Educate families, team members, and support staff in accordance with accepted practice standards.

6. Instruct staff and families on the use of adaptive equipment and assistive devices (e.g., appropriate seating).

7. Monitor and track physical therapy scripts, notifying the lead PT and Administrative Assistant three months prior to expiration for renewal.

8. Maintain and provide current malpractice insurance documentation to the school.

9. Clean and sanitize materials, toys, and equipment in the office after each session and throughout the day.

10. Offer make-up sessions for missed appointments.

11. Ensure proper sign-in and sign-out of students in classrooms.

12. Submit all required attendance documentation to administration promptly.

13. Maintain effective communication with team members through weekly scheduled meetings.

14. Involve families in the planning and treatment of their child.

15. Obtain NPI#.

16. Serve as a role model for students and staff by demonstrating positive attitudes, appropriate attire, grooming, and a strong work ethic.

17. Participate in school-wide projects and committees.

18. Protect the confidentiality of records and information obtained during professional duties, sharing such information only within legal limits.

19. Notify the school of absences due to illness, emergencies, vacations, or professional meetings affecting agreed-upon services.

20. Treat all children with dignity and respect.

21. Attend 3-5 evening orientation/conference events with parents.

22. Perform additional duties as assigned by the Lead Therapist and Principal.

23. Must be able to lift 40 pounds.

24. Ensure that all therapists regularly sanitize materials, equipment, and toys in their offices.

25. Adhere to all policies and procedures of Positive Beginnings, including the current Reopening Plan and applicable Federal, NYSED, and NYC DOHMH guidelines.
