Position Summary
The Pediatric Physical Therapist will be responsible for assessing, diagnosing, and implementing therapeutic interventions for students in accordance with their Individual Family Service Plan (IFSP) or Individual Education Plan (IEP). This role involves collaboration with parents and interdisciplinary team members to ensure comprehensive care.
Key Responsibilities
The responsibilities of the Pediatric Physical Therapist include, but are not limited to:
- Conducting annual physical therapy evaluations focusing on muscle tone, strength, range of motion, and overall motor skills.
- Creating individualized treatment plans based on thorough assessments.
- Maintaining accurate attendance and progress records.
- Ensuring that therapy services align with students' educational objectives and regulatory standards.
- Designing educational and recreational activities to facilitate student adaptation to their functional capabilities.
- Instructing students in adaptive skills necessary for daily living and vocational tasks.
- Providing training for staff on relevant therapeutic techniques and program objectives.
- Participating actively in interdisciplinary team meetings and case reviews.
- Integrating therapeutic techniques into students' home and school environments through collaboration with families and staff.
- Documenting therapy sessions and outcomes in students' records.
- Monitoring therapy progress and making recommendations as necessary.
- Referring students to additional clinical services when appropriate.
- Fitting and adjusting adaptive devices as needed.
- Assisting with initial evaluations and intake processes.
- Completing all required documentation promptly and accurately.
- Supervising Physical Therapy students and assistants as required.
- Supporting students with daily activities as directed.
- Maintaining therapy equipment and managing supply orders.
- Performing other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
To excel in this role, candidates should possess the following:
- Proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking English.
- Strong interpersonal skills for effective communication with students, families, and colleagues.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality due to the sensitive nature of the position.
- Capability to work independently and manage multiple tasks efficiently.
- Excellent organizational and communication skills.
- Analytical skills to assess student progress and determine appropriate therapy methods.
Education and Experience
Candidates should have:
- A Bachelor of Science in Physical Therapy; a Master's degree is preferred.
- Prior experience as a Physical Therapist is advantageous.
Licensure
Current New York State license in Physical Therapy is required.
Compensation: $44.57/hour plus comprehensive benefits.
